Hydro International, Bentley Host Free Detention Pond Seminar

Hydro International will conduct a free joint e-seminar with Bentley at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Jan. 28 for users of Bentley’s PondPack® detention pond design and urban hydrology modeling software.

Hydro’s Reg-U-Flo® Vortex Valve has been modeled into the latest version of the PondPack® program, which allows engineers to analyze, design, manage, and plan detention pond projects. Bentley provides comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains the world.

The hour-long session will include presentations by Kwabena Osei of Hydro International and Tasneem Khomusi of Bentley Systems. Osei, Hydro’s U.S. Research and Development manager, will discuss the use of Reg-U-Flo® Vortex Valves in flow-control projects, and Khomusi, Bentley’s technical director for Hydraulics & Hydrology Solutions, will show how to set up a detention pond with a vortex valve outlet flow control in PondPack®. Those interested can sign up by accessing Bentley Systems’ Web site.

“Flow control facets of development projects cannot be left to chance,” Osei said. “By attending this e-seminar, engineers can walk away with a much better understanding of how to size and configure their flow control systems correctly, saving them time and money in the final project design.”

Hydro’s Reg-U-Flo® Vortex Valve is a self-activating device that uses vortex principles to control and attenuate stormwater flow and other liquid streams without the need for moving parts or external power requirements. Its hydraulic vortex action chokes back peak flows far more effectively than other valves and conventional flow control devices such as orifice plates, which have much smaller outlet openings (apertures). This significantly minimizes the chance of blockages and reduces upstream stormwater detention volumes by up to 40 percent.
