EPA Awards Energy Star Certification to Vehicle Dealerships for First Time Ever
Eight vehicle dealerships, including four in California, have received the designation.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Energy Star certification to eight vehicle dealerships, the nation’s first dealerships to receive the designation. Energy Star certification signifies a notable effort to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
According to a release dated Feb. 1, these dealerships demonstrated that they are more energy-efficient than at least 75 percent of their peers nationwide. The certification process used the EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager tool, which assesses energy efficiency based on utility bills, weather and business activity.
The awarded dealerships are as follows:
- Acura of Sherman Oaks, Sherman Oaks, Calif.
- Brandfon Honda, Branford, Conn.
- Coggin Honda Orlando, Orlando, Fla.
- DCH Tustin Acura, Tustin, Calif.
- Island Honda, Kahului, Hawaii
- Marin Acura, Corte Madera, Calif.
- Thayer Honda, Bowling Green, Ohio
- Ventura Toyota, Ventura, Calif.
“Reducing energy use in commercial buildings is an essential part of the transition to a clean energy economy,” EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan said in a statement. “I congratulate these businesses for demonstrating the power of energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective way at auto dealerships across the country.”
This initiative is part of the EPA’s effort to encourage energy efficiency in commercial and residential buildings, which could reduce emissions by up to 63 percent by 2030 through energy efficiency, electrification and clean energy, as enabled by the Inflation Reduction Act.
