EPA Calls for Nominations to its Local Government Advisory Committee
Officials will advise on environmental justice, climate change and public health protection.

The EPA has opened a one-month window for nominating elected and appointed officials to its Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC).
In a release dated August 31, the agency made the announcement about the committee, which plays a crucial role in advising on key environmental challenges affecting local governments. In 2024, the LGAC will provide recommendations on issues such as advancing environmental justice, developing local technical assistance capacity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing climate change resilience, and supporting local governments in assessing and remediating PFAS chemicals.
“Protecting public health and the environment and the success of the Biden-Harris Administration’s ambitious agenda depends on the meaningful partnerships we have forged with our state, local, tribal and territorial partners,” EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe said in a statement. “Local governments bring an important perspective and practical thinking to these issues, and I appreciate the local officials who are willing to volunteer for this important advisory group.”
The LGAC, established in 1993 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, provides independent and objective policy advice to the EPA Administrator on a range of issues affecting local governments. Candidates must be current elected or appointed officials representing local, state, tribal or territorial governments. Members will serve one-year terms with the option to renew.
