McCarthy, Moniz Discussing Climate Action Plan Today

The EPA administrator and secretary of energy will participate in a White House Google+ Hangout starting at 12:15 p.m. EDT.

The heads of EPA and the Department of Energy will discuss the Obama administration's new Climate Action Plan, including the proposed EPA rules to set limits for new power plants' carbon emissions, during a Sept. 23 White House Google+ Hangout that begins at 12:15 p.m. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy are taking part in the discussion, which will be moderated by Lisa Hymas, senior editor of Grist.org.

McCarthy announced the power plant proposed rules Sept. 20. "Climate change is one of the most significant public health challenges of our time," she said. "By taking common-sense action to limit carbon pollution from new power plants, we can slow the effects of climate change and fulfill our obligation to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our children. These standards will also spark the innovation we need to build the next generation of power plants, helping grow a more sustainable clean energy economy."
