Denis Hayes, Mark Shannon to Address AWWA ACE10

Speakers have been named for the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) 2010 Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE10). Denis Hayes will be the highlighted speaker at the Opening General Session and Mark Shannon will make a presentation for the Monday Keynote address, both on June 21.

Hayes, the national coordinator of the first Earth Day, will speak about the major environmental challenges and opportunities confronting the water community today such as global warming, expanding renewable energy, and protecting oceans and natural resources to ensure a sustainable future.

Shannon, professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, also will open the professional sessions on Monday afternoon. As the director of the Center of Advanced Materials for Purification of Water with Systems and associate director of the Center for Nanoscale Chemical-Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing Systems, Shannon will offer insight into advancing nanoscale, microscale and mesoscale science and technologies that address real-world problems.

The conference also offers events focused on AWWA sections, diversity issues, young professionals, students, public officials, operators, and international attendees.
