Colorado Town Improves Water Efficiency with Real-Time Meter Data

Local water utility in Snowmass, Colo. looks to empower customers with water consumption data.

FATHOM Water Management, Inc., a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider for water utilities, recently announced that the Water and Sanitation District for Snowmass, Colorado (“Snowmass” or “SWSD”) has selected FATHOM Prime and U2You products to allow customers to manage their bills and provide them with access to water consumption data to improve conservation efforts and customer service. These products will integrate seamlessly with Snowmass’ existing smart meter infrastructure from Neptune, a pioneering advanced metering infrastructure developer.

A small ski town located just eight miles from Aspen, Snowmass sees significant seasonal population changes. With the FATHOM system, homeowners can now get early detection of water leaks, insights into water use of their homes and rental properties, and access the FATHOM mobile platform to view account activity and pay bills. Working together, FATHOM and Neptune enable residents to gain more insight into and control over their water consumption.

“We immediately saw the benefits of accessing real-time meter data for both our customers and our staff,” said Christie Duckett, billing manager of SWSD. “With the new platform, our team can view meter data and water usage in many different ways, from an individual account to city trends, and identify consumption trends. We are also thrilled to provide our customers access to their individual consumption data and alerts to empower them to proactively manage their water usage.”

In just five months, SWSD has seen a significant reduction in customer calls asking for billing information and a breakdown of individual water consumption.

“Information is the key to success for water utilities and helping customers manage their usage is quickly become an obligation in the water sector,” said Trevor Hill, CEO of FATHOM. “As we move toward a world of connected devices, like smart water meters, and the massive amount of data they generate, it is increasingly important to empower water utilities and their customers with FATHOM’s cutting-edge technologies and services.”

The FATHOM software was deployed in March, 2016 and included 1,300 meters.
