Standards Help Senegalese Water Company Improve Operations

Sénégalaise Des Eaux serves 5 million people throughout the West African nation. Becoming certified to several ISO standards, including 9001 (quality) and 14001 (environmental management), helps it operate more reliably and efficiently, CEO Mamadou Dia explains in a new video.

ISO's website is featuring a new video that show how several standards are helping a major water company in Senegal manage its business operations more reliably and efficiently. Water Senegal (Sénégalaise Des Eaux, or SDE) provides drinking water to 5 million people and the 56 largest urban areas in the West African country, giving Senegalese better access to potable water, according to the video and ISO Communication Officer Sandrine Tranchard's report dated March 11, 2015.

In the video, SDE CEO Mamadou Dia explains that the company's reliability has exceeded 80 percent, and he credits this to becoming certified to ISO 9001:2008 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and OHSAS 18001 (occupational health and safety management).

"By implementing management standards, such as ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management, the company was able to streamline its drinking water services and increase the quality of its water, which has reached a potability level of 99.1%," Tranchard wrote.
