EPA's McCarthy to Address GHG Rules for Power Plants at EUEC

Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for the agency’s Office of Air and Radiation, will be the keynote speaker on Jan. 31 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation, will be the keynote speaker during the plenary session of EUEC 2011, an energy, utility, and environment conference slated for Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The U.S. EPA recently announced a two-year plan to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards under the Clean Air Act for power plants and oil refineries. McCarthy will open the 9 a.m. plenary session Jan. 31 with a presentation about the agency’s schedule to issue proposed regulations for power plants by July 26, 2011, and final regulations by May 26, 2012.

Representatives from the nation’s top energy agencies and organizations will also make plenary presentations about crucial issues facing the industry. Presenters following McCarthy will be Frank Prager, vice president of Environmental Policy and Services, Xcel Energy; Bryan Hannegan, vice president of Environment and Renewables, EPRI; and Mitchell Baer, director of Oil & Gas Analysis, U.S. DOE. Prabhu Dayal, Ph.D., EUEC chair, will close the session at 11:30 a.m.

“This conference is a unique forum where both leaders from government and industry collaborate and share ideas to move the U.S. toward energy independence and national security while reducing carbon emissions,” said Dayal “It offers networking and business development opportunities with senior executives from most of the major electric utilities, reputed environmental engineering and consulting firms, and related government agencies in the U.S. The technical program offers over 600 world-class expert speakers from diverse fields and backgrounds who present new technologies and ideas to comply with current regulations and plan new corporate strategies.”

More than 1,500 delegates are registered to date. For more information, visit www.euec.com or call 520.615.3535.
