60 Groups Call for Shale Gas Drilling Ban in New York
Sustainable Otsego, a group focusing on sustainable issues in Otsego County, N.Y., has completed, at the request of U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri of New York, a white paper on gas drilling related issues in the state.
A petition to ban shale gas drilling in New York is supported by 60 organizations and over 2,600 individuals, the group says.
After six months of research, the white paper, "Why Horizontal Drilling and Hydraulic Fracturing of Gas Wells Should Be Banned in New York State," details the intrinsic dangers to water supplies and health posed by the current state of gas extraction technologies.
