Florida Governor Appoints SFWMD Board Members

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist recently reappointed William Bunch and appointed Candy Nathe to two Southwest Florida Water Management District Basin boards.

William Bunch is the owner of Oysters Restaurant and lives in Crystal River. He was reappointed to the Coastal Rivers Basin Board. Bunch was first appointed to the board 2001. His current term ends March 1, 2011. The Coastal Rivers Basin Board area includes the coastal regions of Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties.

Candy Nathe is a realtor with Elite Brokers Real Estate Group and lives in Dade City. She was appointed to the Withlacoochee River Basin Board to succeed Patsy Nathe. Her term ends March 1, 2012. The Withlacoochee River Basin Board area includes portions of Citrus, Hernando, Levy, Marion, Pasco and Sumter counties.

The district has seven regional basin boards that provide guidance for local programs that are specific to the basins they protect. The district’s eighth basin, the Green Swamp, is administered by the Governing Board Basin Board's work with local governments and other entities on water resource projects that have an impact in local communities. Basin boards often provide partial funding for these projects in partnership with a local government or local cooperator.

Basin Board members are unpaid citizen volunteers appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. They serve three-year staggered terms.
