Barnstable Signs on with United Water for 5 Years

United Water is beginning a five-year contract to provide safe and reliable drinking water to the village of Hyannis, Mass., according to a July 29 press release.

Hyannis is the largest of the seven villages in the town of Barnstable, the county seat of Barnstable County, and one of five water districts in the town. The agreement with Barnstable has the potential for three five-year extensions.

Under the terms of its contract, United Water will operate, manage and maintain the complete water system, which includes four water treatment facilities, 12 wells, two water storage standpipes and approximately 106 miles of distribution piping. These facilities help provide an average of 2.7 million gallons per day of safe drinking water to residential and commercial customers. In addition, United Water will provide customer service, billing and collection services. The agreement includes asset management and inspection services for the standpipes to be provided by Utility Service Company, an affiliate of United Water.

“We’re excited and honored the town of Barnstable has chosen United Water to operate this water system,” said Bob Iacullo, company president. ”Our team looks forward to becoming part of the Barnstable community, and we’re genuinely excited to have the opportunity to serve its residents.”

“We selected United Water to operate the water system because of the company’s vast experience, cost effective operations and excellent customer service in managing water systems,” said Deb Krau, chair of the Hyannis Water Board. “We fully expect United Water to deliver excellent water service to our residents and businesses in the Hyannis community.”

United Water provides water and wastewater services to over 7 million people in 26 states through the dedication of its 2,600 employees. Founded in 1869, the company is a subsidiary of the Suez Environnement.

Hyannis, is the central business district of the county and home to Barnstable Municipal Airport, the airline hub of Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
