POU Technology Earns EPA Registration

HaloSource®, a leading clean water and antimicrobial solutions company, has been granted U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registration for HaloPure BR®, a revolutionary technology that provides safe, clean drinking water at point-of-use.

Already in use in water purification devices sold in China, India, and Brazil, HaloPure BR’s EPA registration will broaden the reach of the technology and extend the range of potential partners to support the need for clean drinking water worldwide in both developed and developing economies, a March 25 press release said.

HaloPure BR kills bacteria and viruses that may be present in point-of-use drinking water by using a contact biocide technology that attacks and kills viable or harmful microbes in seconds. Some examples of those microorganisms are: Poliovirus, Rotavirus, MS2, Klebsiella terrigena, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Vibrio cholera, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus.

Requiring no piped water or electricity, HaloPure BR can be applied to a wide variety of applications providing primary disinfection, safe storage, and control of biofilm, the formation of microorganisms in the water or within a device or system.

John Kaestle, chief executive officer, HaloSource, commented that “U.S. EPA registration reinforces HaloPure’s role as the most significant, non-electric drinking water disinfection technology to reach commercialization in the past decade and is the culmination of more than 10 years of work and millions of dollars of investment.”

“Providing safe, affordable drinking water at point-of-use, our technology will also have an important impact on developing communities, by dramatically improving the quality of life through preventing disease and by removing the need for traveling long distances to gain access to safe drinking water,” said Kaestle. “EPA registration will play an important role in enabling us to develop partnerships globally and make our unique technology available across both developed and developing economies.”

When integrated into existing water purification devices, HaloPure BR delivers the most flexible, price-competitive disinfection solution for truly safe drinking water, making it ideal for the rapidly growing and ever-changing global point-of-use drinking water market.
