T. Boone Pickens Proposes a Renewable Energy Plan for America
T. Boone Pickens, co-founder of Clean Energy, has proposed an energy plan for America aimed at reducing U.S. foreign oil dependence by a more than a third. His plan advocates a new renewable energy network created through the increased use of wind power and the widespread use of natural gas for transportation.
"We currently use natural gas to produce 22 percent of our electricity. Harnessing the power of wind to generate electricity will give us the flexibility to shift natural gas away from electricity generation and put it to use as a transportation fuel -- reducing our dependence on foreign oil by more than one-third."
Pickens has launched a media campaign to bring "The Pickens Plan" to the U.S. public and is aiming to discuss his ideas with both presidential candidates. In addition, he has launched a new Web site to explain his plan -- www.pickensplan.com
He calls his plan "a bridge to the future -- a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives and buy us time to develop even greater new technologies." He encourages all to "check out the plan. If you think it's worth fighting for, please join our effort, and encourage everyone you know to do the same."
