Elster Wins $9.6M Water Meter Contract with Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority awarded Elster's AMCO Water Division a contract to supply 375,000 residential water meters to be deployed throughout Puerto Rico over the next 12 months.

The contract is valued at $9.6 million and further strengthens a 20-year relationship between the authority and the company.

"We have undertaken this initiative to capture real readings for accurate agency revenues and preserve Puerto Rico's precious natural resources," explained Maribel Cajigas, director of purchasing and logistics for PRASA.

"Elster AMCO Water was selected for this contract because of its demonstrated strength and leadership as a metering solutions provider and excellent support provided to PRASA over the past 2 decades," added Cajigas.

Elster AMCO Water will immediately begin the rollout of the 375,000 residential water meters beginning with their delivery to five regional warehouses in Puerto Rico where they will then be staged for installation.

Along with the new installations, Elster AMCO Water will also collect scrap meters from 30 customer service offices.

"Efficient water management is a key driver in improving a water utility's operational efficiency while also enhancing and improving water conservation," said Elster AMCO Water president, Roman Thomassin. "We remain dedicated and committed to delivering the highest quality, advanced metering solutions and services to water utilities globally and welcome this opportunity to continue our long standing alliance with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority."
