New data shows that November 2022 was the ninth-warmest November in over a century in the world, and September to November 2022 was the fifth-warmest autumn.
According to a news release from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), November 2022’s temperature was 1.37 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the average temperature in the prior century, ranking November 2022 as the ninth-warmest November since 1879.
Although it may have been the ninth-warmest overall, November 2022 ranked a bit differently for each continent. Europe saw its third-warmest November last month—tying with 2000—but it only placed in the top 20 warmest Novembers for Africa, Asia and South America. The month did not place in North America’s 20 warmest Novembers.
The NOAA also noted that September to November 2022 was the fifth-warmest autumn/spring (as it’s referred to differently in various sections of the world) on record, tying with the same time frame in September to November 2016 and 2018, according to the news release. The average temperature was 58.61 degrees Fahrenheit.
