October 2022 was Fourth-Warmest October on Earth in 143 Years

The average temperature around the world was 58.7 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you thought October was warmer than normal this year, you’re right.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration, October 2022 was the fourth-warmest October our planet has seen in 143 years.

Compared to the 20th century, October 2022’s global average temperature was 1.60 degrees Fahrenheit higher, averaging out to 58.7 degrees Fahrenheit. The other Octobers that were warmer were, in order of warmest to third warmest, October 2015, 2019 and 2018.

Where October ranks for each region vary slightly. October 2022 was the warmest October ever in Europe, though in the Northern Hemisphere, it was only the second warmest. Africa saw its third-warmest October, tied with 2003, and in North America and Asia, this past October ranked sixth.
