EPA Adds Five New Sites to Superfund National Priorities List
The agency is also proposing adding two additional sites.

This week, five new sites were included on the list of contaminated sites in the country.
The EPA added the new sites and is proposing two additional sites to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL), according to a news release.
The new sites being added are Lower Hackensack River in New Jersey, Brillo Landfill in New York, Ochoa Fertilizer Co. in Puerto Rico, Georgetown North Groundwater in Delaware and Highway 3 PCE in Iowa.
The sites EPA is proposing to add include the East Basin Road Groundwater in Delaware and PCE Carriage Cleaners in Nebraska.
"All people this country, no matter the color of their skin, their zip code or income, deserve to live in communities free from harmful pollutants and contaminated lands,” said EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe in the news release. “By adding sites to the Superfund National Priorities List, we are accelerating cleanups and working to ensure that more people living near the nation’s most serious uncontrolled or abandoned releases of contamination have the health and environmental protections they deserve.”
The EPA considered adding an additional site to the list, East Tenth Street site in Pennsylvania, but the investigation and cleaning of the site will be handled by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the news release said.
There are a total of 1,334 sites on the NPL.
