Hasbro Toy Company Says Goodbye Plastic Packaging

Hasbro toy company, based in Rhode Island, announced it will begin eliminating plastic packaging from its products in an effort to be more sustainable and environmentally conscious.

On Tuesday of this week, Hasbro toy company announced its goal to be plastic packaging-free by 2022. Starting in 2020, the company will begin eliminating plastic packaging from its products so consumers can feel good about the purchase, and the company can have a smaller environmental impact.

Elastic bands, blister packs, window sheets, and shrink wrap will be among the types of packaging to go. CEO of Hasbro, Brian Goldner, says “removing plastic from our packaging is the latest advancement in our more than decade-long journey to create a more sustainable future for our business and our world.”

However, eliminating plastic packaging is no easy feat. In fact, it’s quite the commitment. Despite the strategic reworking and large-scale company adjustment this plan requires, Hasbro says it is committed to make its products recyclable and not as wasteful. Hasbro previously eliminated wire tires in 2010 and added instructions for recycling in 2016, according to NBC10.
