Nuclear Technology Receives Large Funding Increase
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will be awarding nearly $67 million in nuclear energy research, development, facility access, as well as infrastructure projects.
The DOE will be awarding $67 million in 28 different states for nuclear technology. This research is vital in creating more efficient, cleaner, and safer energy independence for the country.
“Investing in the future of nuclear energy is an important strategic priority for the Energy Department,” said Ed McGinnis, DOE’s acting assistant secretary for Nuclear Energy. “Nuclear energy technologies contribute to our economy, our environment, and our national security, and I look forward to seeing these projects add to those contributions in the years ahead.”
$31 million will go to 32 university-led nuclear energy research and development projects in 23 states. Another $6 will go to 19 universities for research and infrastructure improvements. $11 million will go to three Integrated Research Projects, and $6 million will go to other research and development projects led by DOE national laboratories, industry, and various universities across the country.
