Texas Water Development Board Approves Grants
Sharing $593,789 in grants through its Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program are the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
The Texas Water Development Board has approved $593,789 in grants through its Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program. The program offers grant funding to state agencies and political subdivisions for activities that promote water conservation in the Lone Star state.
The recipients are the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. They qualified in one of these three categories:
- Water use monitoring equipment
- Demonstration and technology
- The study of irrigation efficiency in Texas
A Request for Applications was posted for the grants in the Texas Register on Dec. 2, 2016, and applicants had until Feb. 15, 2017, to submit an application.
The board collects and disseminates water data, and it also assists with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. It also financially assists programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
