U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and U.S. Deputy Secretary Mike Connor are scheduled to attend the Colorado River Water Users Association Conference in Las Vegas on Dec. 15, and Jewell will sign a Record of Decision on the Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona while there. Their visit is part of a nationwide tour highlighting progress the nation has made during the Obama administration on public lands, waters, and wildlife management.

Glen Canyon Dam is the cornerstone of the Colorado River Storage Project. The second-highest concrete-arch dam in the United States, second only to Hoover Dam, Glen Canyon created Lake Powell, and the hydroelectric power produced by the dam's generators is distributed by the Western Area Power Administration to Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Nebraska. President Dwight D. Eisenhower ceremonially ignited a dynamite blast in October 1956 that started the dam's construction.
