Earth Day Texas Unveils the First Ever ‘Earth Day Texas Expeditions’
The world’s largest annual public green exhibition is launching a year-round event series to help the adventurous discover natural hidden gems around North Texas.
Earth Day Texas, a nonprofit organization focused on environmental education and awareness, launched a signature event series, Earth Day Texas Expeditions (EDTx EXP), designed to connect those who would like to spend more time with experts and discover some of the most beautiful and ecologically significant destinations in the Lonestar State during half-day and full-day trips.
EDTx will schedule adventurous trips that highlight Texas’ environmentally-friendly areas. Enthusiasts will explore ways to protect their neighboring air, water and lands through education and research. The first expedition is slated for Saturday, October 15, to the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center, nestled 25 miles southeast of Dallas on 2,000 acres of man-made wetlands. Participants will take part in an interactive exhibit, a fully equipped research lab to study the landscape, animals and boardwalks extending into the living wetland.
Future EDTx EXP destinations may include trips to Caddo Lake, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Trinity River Audubon Center and the Great Trinity Forest. Each of these intimate immersive experiences will be led by conservation experts who will cover the wildlife, historic background and environmental significance of each destination. Registration is open to anyone 18 and over and those who are interested should reserve a spot soon before they are completely gone. Minimum registration age will vary per expedition.

EDTx EXP is the latest addition to an initiative that aims to serve the community during monthly events. Earth Day Monthly (EDMo) launched last fall as a way to expand educational offerings beyond the three-day Earth Day event held each April in Dallas’ historic Fair Park. In 2016, EDTx broke all previous records, drawing over 130,000 attendees.
