Security Exercise Scheduled at California's Folsom Dam

The federal Bureau of Reclamation will conduct it April 23 in cooperation with several other agencies.

The Bureau of Reclamation announced it will conduct a full-scale security exercise at Folsom Dam on April 23. The dam is located in Folsom, Calif.

Participating agencies include the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department/Folsom Dam Security Bureau, city of Folsom police and fire departments, California State Parks, Sacramento Office of Emergency Services, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Sacramento County Department of Technology, The exercise will simulate emergency response activities at Folsom Dam, starting at 8 a.m. and ending by 4 p.m.

The drill will allow emergency response agencies to check security systems and practice tactical skills and multi-agency coordination. An incident command post will be set up close to Reclamation's Central California Area Office, which is located at the dam. Folsom-Auburn Road and the Folsom Lake Crossing bridge will remain open throughout the exercise.

The bureau has built dams, power plants and canals in 17 western states. Its projects provide water to millions of people and for 10 million acres of farmland. Folsom Dam is 340 feet high and 1,400 feet long.
