Pennsylvania Proposes New Oil and Gas Regulations
The Environmental Quality Board approves a plan that will make regulations on oil and gas activity stronger
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, a new regulation that has been passed will ensure oil and gas companies use stronger environmental protection performance standards. In addition to the local government, various residents and organizations were behind the proposal, which has been in the process of approval for around two years.
As reported by PR Newswire, the proposed regulation will impose stricter regulations on public areas, such as parks, to help prevent excessive waste and oil spills. The drafted regulation also hopes to manage the proper restoration of well sites after drilling occurs and contains new standards for temporary pipelines and gathering lines.
This proposal is the first update to Pennsylvania’s oil and gas laws in around 30 years. The draft still has to be reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office and the Office of General Counsel, which will then be followed by a comment period open to the general public.
