Sierra Nevada Gets Funding for Meadow Restoration

In order to restore two Sierra Nevada meadows, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy will be sending $137,000 grant to American Rivers.

The $137,000 grant to American Rivers will be used to restore the Hope Valley meadow in the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest and the Shell Meadow in the Stanislaus National Forest in Sierra Nevada. The funding will help restore the key headwater meadows and monitor fish and wildlife for two years. Meadow restoration plays a vital role in preparing rivers for the effects of climate change.

According to Luke Hunt, director of headwaters restoration in the California office of American Rivers, “By restoring these meadows we can help them act as natural sponges that store water. As climate change reduces snowpack, California’s rivers and the downstream communities that depend on them will need this kind of innovative water supply solution.”
