President Obama Announces New EPA Administrator Nominee

During a ceremony at the White House today, President Barack Obama announced three cabinet-level nominations, including Gina McCarthy as the new administrator for the EPA.

Gina McCarthy has been nominated to be the new EPA administrator by President Obama today in a ceremony at the White House. McCarthy has been acting as assistant administrator to the EPA prior to this nomination.

“I can promise you that as soon as the Senate gives them the go-ahead, they’re going to hit the ground running, and they’re going to help make America a stronger and more prosperous country,” Obama said during the ceremony.

McCarthy once worked as head of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, but she currently leads the Office of Air and Radiation for the EPA, which has helped cut pollution from coal-fired powered plants and automobiles during the Obama’s first term. Her efforts have been praised by environmentalists.

The other nominees were Sylvia Mathews Burwell of the WalMart Foundation as director of the Office of Management and Budget and scientist Ernest Moniz as head of the Energy Department.
