EPA Reaches Settlement to Clean Water in Los Angeles Area

TDY Industries will pay the EPA $1.44 million for water contamination.

The U.S. Environmental Inspection Agency is continuing its efforts to clean drinking water in Los Angeles with a $1.44 million settlement.

The EPA came to a groundwater cleanup agreement with TDY Industries, LLC to fund this purification of water at the San Gabriel Valley Superfund Site. So far, the agency has cleaned more than 12.5 billion gallons of drinking water since 2008 at the site, removing 5,500 pounds of contaminants.

TDY operated a facility in the area used to manufacture metal casings and electronics, as well as reconditioning drums.

Over the past four years, the EPA has been decontaminating the polluted groundwater, costing about $2 million annually. The treatment systems at the site run continuously.

The San Gabriel Valley Area 1 Superfund site covers about eight miles of contaminated water.
