Growing Greener Plus Grants Offered by the Pennsylvania DEP
On Oct. 5, 2012, the Department of Environmental Protection announced that applications are now being accepted for four separate grants provided by the 2012 Growing Greener Plus grant proposal.
Organizations have been offered a unique opportunity to apply for four distinct grants at the same time. These grants are the Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act (SMRCA) grants, Watershed Protection grants, Section 319 Nonpoint Source grants, and Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Set-Aside grants. Each of these grants is offered to fund projects to preserve Pennsylvania’s watersheds.
The SMCRA and AMD Set-Aside grants are for school districts, incorporated non-profit organizations, municipalities, and municipal authorities that meet specific SMCRA Bond Forfeiture or AMD Set-Aside grant requirements. The Section 319 grant funds to organizations within targeted Watershed Implementation Plan watersheds and are available to counties, county conservation districts, watershed organizations, government councils, and other approved institutions.
The Watershed Protection grant entrusts in projects that will replenish and protect watersheds in Pennsylvania from non-point source pollution. This grant also includes the Watershed Renaissance Initiative to cover the costs of developing a watershed restoration plan that fully mends an impaired watershed. Possible projects should be located in high-need watersheds and reduce the sources of pollution.
In order to apply for any of these grants, applications should be submitted by Oct. 26. Applications can be mailed to P.O. Box 8776, Harrison, PA 17105, Attention: DEP’s Grants Center. Applications can also be hand-delivered, but need to be received no later than 4 p.m. Electronic or late submissions will not be accepted.
