EU Agency Releases Chemical Safety Assessment Tool

The European Chemicals Agency made the 1.1.3 version of Chesar available as a free download.

The European Chemicals Agency, known as ECHA, has released version 1.1.3 of Chesar, its chemical safety assessment and reporting tool. With Chesar, registrants can complete Chemical Safety Assessments for the different uses of a substance as they prepare Chemical Safety Reports. (Each registration dossier for substances above 10 tonnes must contain a Chemical Safety Report.)

The EU agency manages REACH and CLP activities across the European Union; CLP is the European Regulation on Classification, Labeling and Packaging of chemical substances and mixtures that is based on the Globally Harmonized System. ECHA has been busy this year, offering several new tools and revised guidance to help manufacturers and importers meet the requirements. On April 5, it posted a free database of REACH and CLP terms in 22 EU languages, including the CLP pictograms and hazard and precautionary statements.

ECHA also announced the program for its Sixth Stakeholders' Day, which will take place May 18 at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre. This is a large outreach event to discuss ECHA activities, train end users on the chemical regulatory schemes and hear from stakeholders. The annual Helsinki Chemicals Forum will take place the following day.
