Vessel General Permit Session Set for Dec. 15

EPA is beginning to develop requirements for the permit covering incidental discharges from vessels.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a listening session Dec. 15 at its headquarters to obtain stakeholder input on suggested improvements for the next Vessel General Permit (VGP).

The VGP is a Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit that authorizes, on a nationwide basis, discharges incidental to the normal operation of vessels. EPA seeks the views of the public on requirements currently contained in the 2008 VGP and any changes or additions recommended for the next VGP. The 2008 VGP expires on Dec. 19, 2013.

The listening session will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15, 2010, in the EPA East Building at 1201 Constitution Ave. NW, Room 1153, Washington, D.C. 20004.

EPA will accept written comments and relevant information for developing the next permit until Dec. 31, 2010.
