The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $477,000 to the Northwest Arkansas Conservation Authority to develop a wastewater treatment system capable of supporting the region and provide for cleaner and healthier streams in the Illinois River Basin.

The authority is currently formed by the 10 cities of Bentonville, Bethel Heights, Cave Springs, Centerton, Elm Springs, Highfill, Lowell, Springdale, Rogers, and Tontitown. The funds will provide for a portion of the engineering and final design phase of the wastewater conveyance system and will not be used for construction activities.
