Agency Offers Revised Guidance on Public Notification Rule

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has revised and released three guidance documents for the Public Notification (PN) Rule: The Revised State Implementation Guidance for the Public Notification (PN) Rule, The Revised Public Notification Handbook, and The Revised Public Notification Handbook for Transient Noncommunity Systems.

These documents provide implementation guidance to assist EPA regions and states exercising primary enforcement responsibility (primacy) under the Safe Drinking Water Act as well as guidance to aid public drinking water systems in complying with the Public Notification Rule.

The documents have been updated to provide support and direction to the regulated community and to the public regarding EPA’s interpretation of the PN Rule since the addition of the Ground Water Rule, the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule, the Lead and Copper Rule - Short Term Revisions, and the Stage 2 Disinfection Byproducts Rule.

These documents can be accessed on EPA's Web site at www.epa.gov/safewater/publicnotification/compliancehelp.html.
