Comprehensive climate change legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), and John Kerry (D-Mass.) on Sept. 30, includes significant water efficiency provisions, according to the Alliance for Water Efficiency.
Committee hearings on the bill, the “Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act,” are expected to begin this month as the bill moves forward to the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee. The water efficiency provisions in the bill include: authorizing EPA’s WaterSense program – the voluntary program for labeling water-efficient high-performance products and services. directing federal agencies to make cost-effective water-efficient procurement decisions by purchasing WaterSense or Federal Energy Management Program certified products whenever possible, and authorizing grants to eligible entities for programs offering incentives to consumers who purchase and install water-efficient products and services such as those labeled under WaterSense program.
