Firm Restores 284 Acres of Wetlands
Coastal Louisiana Resource, LLC, a subsidiary of Resource Environmental Solutions (RES), has restored 284 acres in northwest Lafourche Parish. The site, Lake Long Mitigation Bank, will provide Fresh Marsh, Bottomland Hardwood, and Baldcypress restoration credits. One- hundred-fifty-four acres of the property fall within the Louisiana Coastal Conservation Boundary.
By restoring tidal exchange to the property, wetland functions and values associated with forested wetlands and freshwater marshes will be re-established. These functions and values include enhanced groundwater quality; the ability to absorb excess nutrients before they reach the Gulf of Mexico and downstream estuaries while also providing vital food and habitat for various fish and wildlife.
Elliott Bouillion, RES president and chief executive officer, said, “This restored wetland acreage will provide a mitigation solution to oil and gas companies, developers and municipalities to offset their unavoidable impacts to wetlands," said in a Feb. 3 press release. "We are pleased to be able to make these credits available for permittees served by the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.”
RES is committed to providing “green infrastructure” that adds to the restoration of area wetlands. All of the firm’s properties have conservation servitudes held by third parties so that long-term maintenance and monitoring of the wetlands are in place in perpetuity.
