Practice Greenhealth Offers Free Workshops in Louisiana

Practice Greenhealth has partnered with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 6, the Louisiana Hospital Association, and the Department of Health and Hospitals to present a series of free workshops aimed at assisting hospitals and other healthcare providers in reducing healthcare's environmental "footprint," as well as providing useful tools to improve compliance with The Joint Commission's™ "Environment of Care" standards.

On Feb. 18 in Baton Rouge and again on Feb. 19 in New Orleans, the Practicing Green Healthcare session will focus on eliminating mercury in healthcare settings, as well as reducing the quantity and toxicity of healthcare waste.

On Feb. 20 in New Orleans, the Managing Wastes in Healthcare Facilities session will focus on pharmaceutical waste handling, and the handling and disposal of other hazardous material. It will include a hands-on activity related to pharmaceutical waste disposal. Discussion will include the recent announcement by EPA to add Hazardous Pharmaceutical Waste to Universal Waste Rule.

Online registration closes Feb. 13. To register, visit http://www.practicegreenhealth.org/tools/services/laworkshop/.
