Pilot Freight Joins SmartWay
Pilot Freight Services, a provider of transportation and logistics services, was named a SmartWay(SM) Transport Partner, according to a Sept. 9 press release.
The SmartWay Transport program is a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
To qualify as a partner, Pilot was required to benchmark its current freight operations and has committed to increase the percentage of freight shipped through SmartWay carriers by at least 10 percent a year.
"We are very happy to have the opportunity to join the SmartWay Transport program," said Joe Perez, director of Ground Transportation for Pilot Freight Services. "The transportation industry has an obligation to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, and Pilot is proud to be a part of that effort."
The SmartWay Transport program, launched in 2004, aims to increase the availability and market penetration of fuel efficiency technologies and strategies that help freight companies reduce costs while also diminishing adverse environmental impacts.
