EMCOR Subsidiary Wins Electrical Contract for N.Y. Plant

EMCOR Group, Inc., a leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure, and facilities services, on Sept. 9 announced that its Welsbach Electric subsidiary will perform the electrical construction services for a new clean water treatment plant in Westchester County, N.Y., for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

Welsbach Electric is responsible for the complete electrical installation associated with the construction of the project's two billion gallon-per-day ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection facility, a 170,000-square-foot, two-story concrete structure. Its lower level houses 56 of the largest UV units ever built, while the upper level contains electrical distribution equipment, HVAC equipment, and administrative offices. Welsbach Electric also will be involved in providing electrical construction services for eight additional buildings and structures associated with the project.

When complete, this clean water treatment plant will be the world's largest UV facility for disinfecting drinking water. The water treatment plant will treat drinking water from New York City's Catskill and Delaware reservoir system, which accounts for approximately 90 percent of New York City's drinking water.
