Popular Educational Resource Marks Third Anniversary
The California Section of the WateReuse Association joined forces with the Water Education Foundation to produce a full-color, 16-page booklet about recycled water for upper elementary students. Now, in its third year of availability, this popular educational tool has been ordered by water agencies and recycled water educators from across the nation.
The booklet correlates to the California State Science Standards for upper elementary grade levels; however, its use is not limited to California. A Teacher's Guide was produced in 2007 as a companion piece for classroom educators and is available via the Internet. The booklet can be used in classrooms, as a handout at water agency events, and on treatment plant tours.
The comic book layout and activity-filled format explain the process to produce recycled water in terminology understandable by young students and adults alike, using whimsical, appealing artwork. The many uses of recycled water and its importance as a water supply for communities are emphasized throughout the booklet.
Packed with puzzles, mazes, Internet resources, and science-based approaches, students will stay focused on learning about recycled water from the engaging cover to the activity answers on the back page.
The publication was initiated by a volunteer committee of California recycled water experts and water educators. It was published by the Water Education Foundation and the WateReuse Association, California Section.
