Plattsmier to Join NRC Committee

John Plattsmier, national technical director for pump stations and pipelines at HDR, has accepted an invitation to join the National Research Council's (NRC) Committee to Review the Bureau of Reclamation's Corrosion Prevention Standards for Ductile Iron Pipe, according to a recent press release.

The committee will review criteria and other relevant data regarding ductile iron pipe, corrosion prevention, and coatings. A report will then be issued with findings and conclusions about the appropriateness of corrosion prevention requirements.

Plattsmier, who joined HDR in 2007, was selected for this committee based on his knowledge of pipeline design and history of design with many materials, including ductile iron pipe. He is located in HDR's Denver office.

The NRC is comprised of several program units including the Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences of which the National Materials Advisory Board is a part. The board is the nation's pre-eminent source of independent materials assessments and performs studies that deal with the entire lifecycle of materials – from mining and synthesis to manufacturing, service performance, and recycling/disposal.
