NRC Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste, Materials to Meet on Oct. 16-18

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste and Materials (ACNWM) will meet Oct. 16-18 in Rockville, Md., to discuss, among other items, overview and development of seismic regulations, current seismic design requirements for nuclear power plants and mixed oxide fuel fabrication facilities, and pre-closure seismic design requirements for the proposed Yucca Mountain high-level radioactive waste repository.

In addition, the committee will be briefed by staff from the Office of federal and state materials and environmental management programs on decommissioning plans for the Mallinckrodt Chemical Inc. site in St. Louis. The ACNWM reports to and advises the commission on all aspects of nuclear waste and materials management.

The meeting will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike. Tuesday's session will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday?s session will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday's session will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
