A Ford Blog Offers EV Etiquette Advice
EVs -– electric vehicles -– are becoming more common, as are public charging stations. A recent post on one of Ford’s blogs says about 9,400 stations exist in the United States, and the writer, Tori Tellem offered etiquette tips for EV owners.
Her five tips were these:
1. Never unplug another EV unless you're certain it's fully charged.
2. If you charge your EV at someone’s house, offer to pay for it.
3. Don't take a charging station spot if your EV doesn't need a refuel, and place your cord in such a way that no one trips over it.
4. Prepare yourself for sneers and other jealousy when people wonder why you get such a great parking spot, explaining it's your fueling station and how an EV works.
5. When you're fully charged, move to a regular parking space.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet and OnStar unveiled the EcoHub app, which shows Volt owners how much it costs to charge their vehicles at home and how much it costs to operate their vehicles. The app is currently being tested by drivers in a smart grid community in Austin, Texas, according to GM.
