Joint Task Force Releases Guide to Prepare Communities for Future Pandemics

In a joint effort, the International Code Council's Pandemic Task Force (PTF) and the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) have released the Pandemic Task Force Consolidated Best Practices Guide. This manual seeks to arm communities and buildings with knowledge and practices to better prepare for future health threats.
The International Code Council is recognized for its model codes, standards and building safety solutions with a worldwide application. Meanwhile, NEHA represents a network of more than 7,000 environmental public health professionals across the U.S. and beyond, dedicated to environmental health practices.
Developed after thorough research into the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our built environment, the Pandemic Task Force Consolidated Best Practices Guide outlines guidelines, recommended practices and the implementation of 2024 International Codes. These insights are geared toward addressing potential challenges that may arise during future pandemics and aim to ensure the safe, sustainable and affordable use of buildings and infrastructure.
“The environmental health workforce is the frontline of helping communities to prepare for health threats,” NEHA Government Affairs Director Doug Farquhar said in a statement. “We hope this guide will help professionals on the ground to ensure safe and healthy built environments.”
