San Pedro Bay Clean Air Action Plan Meeting Set for March 29

Up to four CAAP stakeholder advisory meetings per year were called for as part of the Clean Air Action Plan Update approved by the Long Beach and Los Angeles ports' boards of harbor commissioners on Nov. 2, 2017; this will be the first advisory meeting.

An advisory meeting to provide updates on progress of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan 2017 Update will be held March 29 in Long Beach, Calif.

Up to four CAAP stakeholder advisory meetings per year were called for as part of the Clean Air Action Plan Update approved by the Long Beach and Los Angeles boards of harbor commissioners on Nov. 2, 2017; this will be the first advisory meeting. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon March 29 in the first-floor training room of the Port of Long Beach Interim Administrative Offices, 4801 Airport Plaza Drive. The meeting is open to the public.

The CAAP 2017 Update is a strategy for accelerating progress toward a zero-emission future while protecting and strengthening the ports' competitive position in the global economy. Since 2005, port-related air pollution emissions in San Pedro Bay have dropped 87 percent for diesel particulate matter, 56 percent for nitrogen oxides, and 97 percent for sulfur oxides, they reported.

Targets for reducing greenhouse gases from port-related sources were introduced as part of the 2017 CAAP. The document calls for the ports to reduce GHGs 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

At the public meeting, staff of the two ports will discuss near-term priorities for CAAP implementation, next steps for the Clean Truck Program, the status of technology demonstrations, and the timeline for feasibility assessments. Public comments will be accepted on CAAP implementation issues. For more information, go to http://www.cleanairactionplan.org/.
