EPA Finishes Clean Power Plan Hearings
Four public hearings took place at the end of July. By then, about 300,000 comments already had been submitted.
EPA held four public hearings on its proposed Clean Power Plan at the end of July in Washington D.C., Atlanta, Denver, and Pittsburgh, to give even more people the opportunity to comment. After all, the agency already had received 300,000 comments.
The plan seeks to cut carbon pollution from existing power plants, which are the largest source of carbon pollution in the United States. When the plan is fully implemented in 2030, EPA predicts carbon emissions from these sources will be 30 percent below 2005 levels.
EPA expected about 1,600 people would comment during the public hearings. The comment period will end Oct. 16.
