Ocean Harvest Technology Earns Entrepreneurial Award
Frost & Sullivan announced the Canadian company is its 2012 European Entrepreneurial Company of the Year.
Frost & Sullivan announced Jan. 9 that Ocean Harvest Technology Ltd., an international company that has developed natural, sustainable feed products for aquaculture and livestock, has been given the 2012 Europe Frost & Sullivan Award for Entrepreneurial Company of the Year. The decision was based on a Frost & Sullivan analysis of the aquaculture feed market; the analysis firm's news release said "OHT has positioned itself as a provider of cost-effective, eco-friendly, sustainable and natural feed products. It successfully tackles the key issues facing the industry: rising prices, sustainability, safety, and quality."
OHT's OceanFeed™ products are developed from sustainable, nutritious resources such as seaweed and algae. OHT has versions for the salmon, shrimp, and pig markets and has production facilities in Ireland, Canada, and Vietnam.
OceanFeed also allows users to replace synthetic chemical additives and coloring agents used in fish farming. Pig farmers using OHT's products can reduce antibiotic use in their animals, and OHT has demonstrated a product to combat white spot viral disease, which can decimate shrimp harvests "and is damaging the shrimp cultivation industry in Asia at a large scale," according to the release.
