New Responsible Care Codes Coming Next Year
The chairman of the Responsible Care board committee announced updated product and process safety codes will be issued.
The American Chemistry Council announced in a news brief that it will issue updated product and process-safety codes for its Responsible Care program in 2013.
"Instead of waiting for the government to act, we are taking affirmative action through our new product safety code to manage chemicals throughout their life cycles," said Sven Royall, chairman of the Responsible Care board committee. "The entire industry faces enhanced scrutiny whenever a single concern arises. The new product safety code calls for collective and collaborative action along the supply chain."
ACC's 2012 report on Responsible Care Partnership Program members' results indicated they had experienced zero accidental chemical releases in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and their employees drove a combined total of about 2.84 billion miles in 2011 with a rate of only 0.552 recordable accidents per million miles driven. The rate of DOT-reportable recordable accidents has been below 0.60 throughout 2005-2011, according to the report.
ACC will present its 2013 Responsible Care Conference & Exhibit on May 5-8 in Miami, Fla.
