5 Companies Win Inaugural Environmental Protection Product Awards

Environmental Protection, www.eponline.com, announced the winners of its 2010 New Product of the Year Award at the annual Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans today.

The Environmental Protection New Product of the Year Award honors products that stand out for their ability to make environmental professionals' jobs a little easier.

The winners are:

  • Air quality – OMI Industries, Ecosorb Spray Gel.
  • Cleanup – Excal Visual, DVD - Spills & Skills: Non-Emergency HazMat Spill Response.
  • Stormwater – KriStar, Filter-POD.
  • Wastewater – Calgon Carbon, C3500™D Ultraviolet Disinfection equipment.
  • Water – Hach Homeland Security Technologies, City Guard Virtual Command Center.

Three independent industry experts judged the entries. They were Howard Gilberg, H. Troy Stuckey, Ph.D., and Ron Trygar, all of whom serve on the Environmental Protection advisory board. Gilberg, a business lawyer focusing on environmental law and a shareholder in the Dallas boutique environmental law firm of Guida, Slavich & Flores, P.C. , has been practicing environmental law since 1981, concentrating in air quality and waste-related issues affecting manufacturing industries and economic development interests. Stuckey is an environmental scientist with expertise in air quality, waste management and industrial ecology. He also is a research associate professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Trygar is a senior training specialist at the University of Florida Center for Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations in Gainesville, Fla.

Environmental Protection editor Lisa Williams distributed awards and ribbons to those winners who were exhibiting at WEFTEC10 in New Orleans.

OMI 2010 New Product of the Year Award Winner Brian McLaughlin and Philip Coffey, managing director, both of OMI Industries, received a winner's award and ribbon for their product, Ecosorb Spray Gel.
Calgon Carbon UV Disinfection 2010 New Product of the Year Award Winner Bill Sotirakos, product manager-wastewater, and Ralph Franco, sales director, are proud that Calgon Carbon's C3500™D Ultraviolet Disinfection equipment took the top prize in the wastewater category.
Hach Homeland Security Technologies 2010 New Product of the Year Award Winner Nicole Bertram, global product manager for Hach Homeland Security Technologies, was pleased to hear that City Guard Virtual Command Center won the New Product of the Year award in the water category.

 

In addition to being honored at WEFTEC, the winners will be featured on Environmental Protection's Website and highlighted at the 2010 Virtual Event, set for Nov. 10.
