Alcoa, NRC Partner to Increase Recycling

Working with the state affiliates of the National Recycling Coalition, the Alcoa Recycling Company will be providing approximately 25,000 recycling bins for placement in a variety of settings where bins had not previously been available, such as schools, government and office buildings, and low-income communities.

"Getting folks to participate in recycling starts with access and convenience," stated Ed Skernolis, acting executive director of the NRC. "Due to the generosity of Alcoa, we are taking a large step forward to making recycling available to all, and at all different kinds of locations."

The first distribution of bins will occur in Georgia, under the auspices of the Georgia Recycling Association, as part of the State's Greening the Capitol event scheduled for Feb. 12. Over the next few months, bins will be distributed to an additional 17-18 state recycling organizations, all affiliated with NRC.

Interested individuals or organizations can contact either their local state recycling affiliates or Alcoa Recycling through its Web site and register for bins. Alcoa will forward all requests to the appropriate NRC-affiliated state recycling organizations.
