Insituform Gets Rehab Contracts with Montreal, Orange County

The company will use cured-in-place-pipe technology to make repairs in the city of Montreal and in Orange County, Fla.

Insituform Technologies, Inc. recently announced that it has been awarded rehabilitation contracts with the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada for sewer pipelines and with the Board of County Commissioners, Orange County, Fla., for stormwater pipeline.

The company expects to rehabilitate more than nine miles of Montreal's wastewater pipelines ranging from 10 inches to 42 inches in diameter for about $12.2 million (USD). A significant portion of the project includes egg-shaped pipelines. Forty years ago, the company performed the first installation of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) in the United Kingdom in an egg-shaped pipeline. Insituform, the developer of CIPP, has since installed CIPP in more than 19,000 miles of pipelines around the world.

Ken Foster, president of Insituform Technologies in Canada, said, “Winning this important project validates our decision to open an office in Montreal in June 2010 and positions us to meet the increased demands for both sewer and water pipeline rehabilitation in Quebec.”

Work on this project is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

The Orange County contract’s first year value is approximately $3.2 million and may be extended for two additional years for up to $9.5 million over the three-year period.

The company said it anticipates rehabilitating more than 70,000 feet of stormwater pipelines using its Insituform® cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) and iPlus® Composite products. Many of the pipelines are located around the downtown Orlando and Orlando Convention Center areas. Disruption to traffic and pedestrians, including the significant number of tourists who visit Orlando each year, is expected to be minimal.

Work on the project is expected to begin this month.
