New Flood Control Pumps Aid in Renovation of Dutch Pumping Station

The project started with temporary equipment -- three new diesel-powered pump units from BBA Pumps –- being installed. They will take over from the pumping station without any loss of capacity, the Dutch company announced.

A pumping station renovation in the Dutch region of Overijssel is using three new diesel-driven pump units from BBA Pumps. They'll take over temporarily from the pumping station without any loss of capacity and will guarantee the correct water level is maintained, according to the company, which is based in The Netherlands and has a BBA Pumps USA unit based in Wando, SC.

Flood control is an important issue in the country, with much of its surface area vulnerable to flooding. Water control boards are the independent local government bodies responsible for maintaining flood protection systems; in this case, the local board is refurbished a pumping station built in 1933 and designated as a municipal monument.

These "super silent" pumps have a total capacity of more than 6,000 cubic meters per hour, according to BBA Pumps, and have been connected to a modern operating system, making it possible to automatically and independently start and stop them, depending on the volumes of water coming in.
